Age shall not weary him.
At the ripe old age of 24,Kinney Hanover keeps siring winners his latest 2 year old Glenrae Hanover who on Saturday night took out the Gawler Classic at Globe Derby.
Glenrae Hanover is out of the Sir Vancealot mare Miss Fingers, had been in good form after finishing third in the Kindergarten Final to the exiting Emain Macca, he was then runner up to the Andy Gath trained Machiatto at Port Pirie.
On Saturday GlenraeHanover found the front early as staved off a challenge from Arm A Princess (Art Major- ArmaCorka) who was sold at the 2015 SA BOTRA Yearling sales.
But it Glenrae Hanover’s sire Kinney Hanover that must take the centre stage- the 24 year old was bred at the famous Hanover Shoe Farm in Pennsylvania.
Bred on the famous cross of No Nukes over an Albatross mare,Kinney Hanover’s dam KEYSTONE HERA 1:55.8 – won 7 races, 4 of them as a 2 year old, 3 at 3yo. $101,470. At 2 she won the Canadian Juvenile Series and two Greenwood Stakes. Keystone Hera was also a fast class winner at 4, she is the dam of 16 foals, 15 raced, 13 winners, three are $100,000 winners.
Kinney Hanoverwas originally sold to Ross Torre to stand at his Royal Farm Stud at Bullsbrook in WA but later purchased by Dr Eddie Dewar, he became an instant success in the breeding barn.
Kinney Hanover has had 227 foals to make it to the racetrack for 148 winners including Mon Gee $227,750, Capricorn Cruiser $206,464, On All Fours $184,430, the WA Golden Slipper winner Western Apache $180,385, to name a few.
He is also making his mark as a broodmare sire from his daughters 54 runners 27has come 27 winners to date, Senator Whitby heads the list 11 wins to date and nearly $100,000 in prizemoney.
After Kinney Hanover’s commercial value tapered off Dr Dewar decided to move him on and he was picked up by Dianne Sims who stands him at her property in Boolaroo Centre some 280 kilometers from Adelaide.
Amazingly from his first crop foaled in South Australia of only four which are now 2 year olds two have made it to the races Glenrae Hanover and a gelding called Riverboy Denzel who’s two starts have yielded a fourth and second placings.
With Glenrae Hanover flying his flag Kinney Hanover despite his age might find more mares in his breeding barn next season.
