2Trainer-driver Ryan Hryhorec has nothing but admiration for Abitgoingonhere, a brilliant winner at Globe Derby Park last Saturday.

“This horse runs on courage,” Hryhorec said. “He basically runs on two good legs so he really is a day-by-day proposition.”

A $2.40, Abitgoingonhere sat parked in the Ubet Pace (1800m) and still ran out a two metre winner from pacemaker Ashkii ($4.40) with Canturi Crest ($12.10) six metres away third.

The four-year-old recorded a sizzling 1:56.9 with 30.8 and 30.1 quarters before a brilliant 27.9 coming home in 29.4.

“If he was completely sound he would be a serious horse,” Hryhorec said.

“We just have to work on him daily to keep him on the track but you can never be sure just how long you will have him.”

Abitgoingonhere took his record to 11 wins and 11 placings from just 28 starts of which nine wins and six placings have been for Hryhorec from just 16 starts.

Hryhorec said Queensland owner Glenn Whitford had rung him early last year.

“Glenn said he liked what I was doing and said he would like to have a horse with me.

“He came down, we had lunch, he gave me $15,000 and said find a horse. We picked up Abitgoingonhere for $10,000 and it has been a good buy despite his leg issues.”

Ironically, the gelding is out of a mare called Tarbert, bred by Kevin Dempsey, which did her initial racing driven by Bronte Giorgio at Globe Derby Park, and once was driven by Hryhorec.

Hryhorec said he would continue to try to place Abitgoingonhere to advantage but was wary about the amount of time he would have before the gelding’s legs forced another break, or perhaps retirement.
