LIGHTLY-RACED mare La Machnificent should have little trouble returning to the winners’ circle at Globe Derby on Saturday night.
First-up from an eight-month spell when second in Mount Gambier a fortnight ago, La Machnificent has drawn the pole for trainer Aaron Bain.
Pleased with the four-year-old’s progress, Bain is confident the daughter of Mach Three can register her 11th win at just her 15th start.
“She was underdone at her first run back and will be a lot better this time,” Bain said. “Her work has been terrific and she will strip a lot fitter.
“She has had a few issues, but seems to be over them. At one stage she developed a foot abscess, which took a long time to get out of her body, then another time when I treated her troubled joints her immune system crashed, so I gave her plenty of time off to recover.
“I’m happy with the way she has come back and expect her to continue to make her way through the grades.
“It’s an ideal draw this week from which she should hold up and lead.”
Should La Machnificent reproduce her best form Bain will look at heading interstate to tackle the Victoria Platinum Mares’ Sprint Championship.
Heats of the series are set to be conducted at several provincial tracks, with the $40,000 Final programmed for April 27 at Tabcorp Park Melton.
“She’s got good ability but still has to be tested against some of the better ones,” Bain said. “If she does keep going the way I know she can I will look at the Victoria Sprint Championship.
“I will give her a few runs here first then find a suitable heat and hopefully move on to the Final.”
