The Jim Phillips Memorial Cobram Pacing Cup this Sunday has attracted a star studded field and one of the main acts will be the Tony Peacock trained Barimah.
A last start winner of the Yarra Valley Cup he has really taken his game to the next level this time in greatly impressing Peacock
“We are very happy with him. He has always had a lot of ability and has hardly ever been out of the money but this time in he is certainly going to the next level.”
He meets HectorJayJay again on Sunday after running over the top of him at Yarra Valley and although meeting him 10m worse off Peacock believes the handicap isn’t too much of a disadvantage
“He is very fast; he can follow speed and sprint quickly. He came from behind Hector last start. Cobram is a nice big track so he won’t be rushing into it as it’s a big field to come around but he was running away from them last start. I think with a bit of speed he can be right there again.”
“I’ve always thought he was better with a sit. He has lead and won, sat in the death and won but I do think when he is against the better horses he is better off sit-sprinting”
The main goal for Barimah if he keeps on his upward spiral will be the AG Hunter Cup, a race Peacock is no stranger to having had Toe Taper and Reba Rajah run terrific races in recent years. Peacock believes though that Barimah is right up there with them.
“He has been a bit more immature and a little harder to drive but he is starting to be a more complete racehorse now. He isn’t far short of them ability wise that’s for sure.”
It will be a monster day of racing at Cobram with the first on a big day of racing at 3.02pm.
