On the back of the South Australian fires that claimed equnine lives, homes and properties the news of Bruce Edwards one of Victorian leading breeders has lost his property ‘ Durham Park ‘ thirty minutes south east of Ballaratto fire.
Edwards established Durham Park in 2006 and has become one of the pre-eminent standardbred nurseries in Victoria. He has a band of quality broodmares from the USA, New Zealand and Australia.
Durham Park staff has to leave so quickly they had no time to get the horses off the property.
When Edwards returned to the property he found there was no fences, no sheds, no house, no water in the dams.”
However the horses had somehow survived the blaze.
Edwards loaded the horses on to trucks thanks to Clayton Tonkin & Emma Stewart, who have housed Edwards’s stock on their nearby property.
Alabar has also come to the rescue Alan Galloway has offered to agistment free of charge for six months while Edwards rebuilds and also use of the Alabar barn to prepare yearlings for the sale.
Once again it shows just how much the harness racing family bands together in times of need.
