With WA Summer carnival in full swing following Sundays Inter dominion Final the $300,000 Fremantle Cup on January 8 is the next Group1 event on the WA calendar.
The following Friday its the WA Pacing Cup the following week, but many have forgotten the minor states Tasmania and South Australia.
Tasmania carnival kicks off this weekend with the $40,000 Tasmanian Cup in Hobart at the Elwick circuit, which has bought together a strong field of locals including last year’s winner Star Chambers along with Victorians Lets Elope, Hilltop Hustler and Glenferrie Hood.
Another feature on the program is the time honoured mares event the UBET George Johnson a $20,000 event that has been won by some top class mares over the years, such as Sabilize, Elite Rena, Queen Carey, Make Mine Cullen and the inaugural winner in 1991 Jane Ellen to name a few.
Tasmanian Carnival continues the following Sunday with the $20,000 Hobart Pacing Cup.
South Australia’s Summer Carnival is on January 9 and this year is a one day affair with $100.000 Group 1 SA Pacing Cup in which Major Crocker the Inter dominion consolation winner is likely to like up against local hero Come On Frank and expected Victorian visitors. Already Abettorpunt has arrived in SA to stake his claim he will line up in the Christmas Cup this Saturday.
The Group 3 SA Derby and the Group 2 Trotters Cup also scheduled for January 9, Globe Derby will come alive.
