The wait is over and night racing will return to Donaldson Park Bunbury this Saturday February 3, for what will be undeniably a great night out.

Club Manager Jonathan Calver confirmed that they’re excited and ready to go, with plenty on offer this Saturday night.

“We are tremendously excited, it has been two years in the making,

“It’s been a long wait, and we are excited to welcome crowds back and it is quite a spectacle under lights on a Saturday night down here in Bunbury, so we are very excited.”

Bunbury Trotting Club held their last meeting under lights on New Years Eve 2021, and after complications with their lighting upgrade in Early 2022, racing at Donaldson Park was restricted to daytime and weekday slots, which saw crowds decrease dramatically.

“We hope the crowds have missed Saturday nights as much as we have, so we are hoping for a big crowd,

“We have our awards on and the season launch all tied into the same thing so we are making it as big of an event as we can,

“So hopefully crowds, hopefully some owners, trainers come down and enjoy what it’s about.”

“Were appreciative of all the work that Racing WA have done to get us this far and getting the lights ready. “

The club will hold trials tonight (Wednesday January 31) after holding a few dry practice runs in the lead up but are expecting to sail through Wednesday without an issue, straight into Saturday night’s long anticipated race meeting.

“It’s a good lead up to our Bunbury Cup in a month as well, so it’s a small spectacle before the big on eina way and it will kick off our busiest time,

“We’re racing twice in February and three times in March, so it certainly kicks off a busy eight weeks for us.”

“The pony trots are back as well as us, which they’re excited about as they’ve missed their nights as they can’t race on the weekdays when we were racing.”

This Saturday, Bunbury boasts an eight-race card, with the first getting underway at 5.53pm
