Racing Recap GLOBE DERBY Sat July 29 & Mon July 31.
Saturday July 29
Race One: Debutant 3YO CLARENDEN EXPRESS proved too strong for his older and more experienced rivals here for Claire Goble and Corey Johnson.
Race Two: SPY MAJOR continues his great run of form to win again for Gina Bell. This fellow likes doing it tough and is becoming a real fan favourite.
Race Three: JOONIOR BROWN made use of his draw and absorbed the early speed battle to hold the lead for Sam Pascoe, eventually drawing clear to record his first win of the season. Based on that performance it certainly won’t be his last.
Race Four: Victorian visitor SOMNYS AMAZING made the trip to SA for trainer Reece Moore and was able to get the job done in the NR up to 49 with Kevin Weidenbach in the seat.
Race Five: HARRY OVENS previous two starts over 2230m at Globe Derby weren’t as glorious as his recent 1800m form, yielding only an 8th and a 7th respectively. Therefore, despite being the in-form runner he started $3.70 second favourite. The trip proved to be of no concern however, and was able to secure victory for Mario Borg and Gaita Pullicino from the outside draw.
Race Six: Aaron Bain dominated this mares race filling the first five positions. It was AMERICAN BEAUTY and Classy Dancer who ran the quinella and assserted their class over the rest of the field.
Race Seven: Winners win! ALDEBARAN GWEN continues a great run this season to score another victory for Bronte Giorgio and Michael Smith in the Trotters up to 57.
Race Eight: JOSHING OLIVER made it three wins on end in what was a thrilling finish to tie meeting. David Smith made up plenty of ground on this Luke O’Neil trained gelding, coming from last to narrowly win. The form from their race held up on Monday with third placegetter Shazzam scoring a dominant victory.
Monday July 31
Race One: Sam Pascoe continued her great run of late with the well supported MY GOLDEN EAGLE scoring his first win since saluting at Mildura in January.
Race Two: TRAILBLAZER was another well supported runner on the card and recorded his first win of the season for Ryan Hryhorec who opted to put Gaita Pullicino in the seat. Well done to owner/breeder (and Gawler HRC President) Kaye Halliday.
Race Three: 4YO kiwi bred mare EMMA JOY is starting to find her feet in SA having won two of her past three, getting the job done for Luke O’Neil and David Smith.
Race Four: Another mare was victorious here when MONEYMAKINMONKEY scored second up from a break. This girl seems to perform well early in her preparation, and did so here to the delight of trainer/driver Katie Wilson.
Race Five: Veteran 12YO MANOEUVER MAN was having his 197th start on Monday for team Kittel and it was wonderful to see a much loved horse like him win. The old boy has raced 28 times this season for three wins, theee seconds, and three thirds.
Race Six: The classy SA Cup winner WRANGLER caught the eye in the warm up presenting alert and well for this claimer. Despite 22 runs without a win, the Paul Cavalarro trained 9YO knew what to do when Dean Girardi pointed him in the right direction to win in the quickest time of the day 1:57.4.
Race Seven: Drive of the day goes to Kevin Weidenbach who acted quickly to avoid early trouble on CELESTIAL TOPAZ after Lap Of Honour galloped. From there the Shane Loone trained 6YO was able to dictate play and and score comfortably. Lap Of Honour was able to pick himself up and get up for third and might be one to follow in similar grade next time.
Race Eight: The consistent KEILAH scored another win for the mares on Monday (three for the meeting) for trainer Rebecca Geurds and driver Gina Bell. The 6YO by Art Major has three wins and 19 placings from 33 starts this season. She’s also 1 from 1 at Port Pirie in 2023.
Race Nine: SHAZZAM followed up from his close-up third on Saturday night to run almost identical time scoring by 8.8m here in easier company. Favourite backers left the meeting with a smile thanks to trainer Jeremy Seal and driver Sam Pascoe.
