12 July 2023 | Duncan Dornauf for Tasracing
From Launceston to Albion Park, and even across the Atlantic Ocean to Philadelphia, there were plenty of winners with Tasmanian interest.
James Rattray is closing in on Neville Webberley’s record for the most number of Group 1 wins by a Tasmanian-born trainer after London To A Brick took out the Great Square at Albion Park in Brisbane on Saturday night.
Ignatius won a US$11,200 conditioned event at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Saturday morning in 1m 50.3s after sitting four-back the pylons and raced first over from the half-mile until running to the lead at the quarter.
It was a great night in Launceston on Sunday with several impressive winners across the 10-race card, which made this week’s “Stars” section extremely tough to narrow down.
There is plenty to look forward to this Sunday in Hobart, with the Group 3 Tasfreight Raider Stakes and Collins Homes Granny Smith, plus a 3YO Prelude for the upcoming Beautide.
Launceston also race on Friday night with over 140 people booked into the restaraunt.
The Stars
Terror The Christian – after a 25m win in Hobart the start prior, the Nathan Ford-driven gelding recorded another dominant win on Sunday by 14.9m in what was the gelding’s 10th career win.
Miss Barty – ended a run of outs for hobby trainer, owner, and driver Brett Bailey when proving too good for her rivals in an up-to-rating 44 event.
Killarney Dance – the former Kiwi mare raced up to her excellent form at her Australian debut, where she dug deep late to beat race favourite Karalta Artemis.
Soho Summer – will be the favourite this season for the broodmare of the year, with the efforts of Sunny Sanz, Colby Sanz and Stormy Sanz. Sunday’s 2YO winner Thunder Sanz can be added to the list after his maiden win.
