Captaintreachrous filly Reely Nauti justified her short quote when scoring in the Listed Tasracing Trainers Encouragement Final in Hobart on Sunday night.
Sent out as the $1.75 favourite, the Paul Hill-trained pacer was able to lead from barrier two in the 2090m event.
Driver Rohan Hillier let the three-year-old filly go at the 400m, where she proved too good for another three-year-old filly, Moth Hunter ($4.00), with Debt Till We Part ($13) third, in a mile rate of 2m 0.5s.
The $30,000 event was added to the calendar late last year and was a race that Hill had been eyeing.
“When the race first came out, I thought it would be a lovely little race for her as she hadn’t earned much, and a $30,000 final in that class don’t come round often,” said Hill.
“She was that bit fractious early, but she is settling down now and is improving that little bit all the time.
“But I think she will be better next year as she is a big filly with a bit of size about her,” the trainer said.
The next goal for the pacer will be the Bandbox, which kicks off with heats in late November.
“She is out for a spell now.
“You can’t do any more now.
“If you win three of four races as a three-year-old, you are up in free-for-all grade, and they’re not strong enough to race those seasoned horses at this stage,” said Hill, who is also heading for a spell in Broome himself.
