02 March 2023 | Mark Yole for Tasracing
Leading trainer-driver Mark Yole has as many wins as any other driver in Burnie in the last 12 months, and he has centred on that meeting in this week’s Make Your Mark column.
Weekend best
Burnie race 2 – 1. Karalta Dazzler
This old boy loves the standing start. He also gets a great draw and should lead. When in front he is very hard to get past and I expect that to be the case again here. Great hope.
Under the radar
Burnie race 4 – 7. Real Diamond
A real roughie here. This fellow has no form to speak of at all. He is first up from a spell with a new trainer, but I was very happy with his trial a couple of weeks ago at Carrick. In the past he has tended to over-race and not settle in his races, however in the trial he settled really nicely and came with a run at the 600m where he showed a nice turn of foot and worked to the line encouragingly. He was only beaten by Salvatore Mundi and Agouda Ruler who had the sit on his back. If either of those two horses were in this field, they would be odds on. The draw is a little tricky but if there is a genuine tempo I think he will be finishing off nicely.
Wish I was in the sulky
Hobart race 1 – 3. Margarets Clan
Freshened since galloping out and not having much luck in the St Marys Cup on Australia Day. Her form prior to that was very good behind the smart mare Queens Treacherie. She was a winner at Burnie in December. She has the more favourable draw on her main opponent in Charmedforareason (who I think goes very nicely) however that filly has made mistakes and she can’t afford to be doing that here. I think if Dylan pushes out hard, he should find the front and then I don’t believe there will be much pressure so he should get a good breather, and give a good kick to hold them out.
Best value
Burnie race 1 – 1. Stylish Trend
Another old boy who is going along nicely and comes up with a plum draw. He flies the stand and should lead these. From there I should be able to dictate the tempo and around this tight track he will be mighty hard to catch.
