With harness racing’s big awards night just six weeks away, the finalists have been found for two new categories – Stablehand of the Year and Newcomer to Training.
The awards, celebrating excellence in the sport in 2022, will be held at Addington Raceway on Saturday, March 4. Tickets can be purchased here.
Stablehand of the year received 16 nominations, all sent in by trainers.
The awards sub-committee met this week to discuss the nominations, and were impressed by the calibre of the nominees, saying all were worthy of making the final five.
The finalists are :
Scott Ramsay (nominated by Shannon Armour)
Kevin Crozetiere (nominated by Dylan Ferguson)
Zara Power (nominated by Paul Kerr)
Penny Boyle (nominated by Michael House)
Brett Gillan (nominated by Brad Mowbray)
Four finalists have been chosen for the other new award, the Newcomer to Training. To be eligible trainers must have been licenced for no longer than five years, with their performance rated on starters, winners and and overall performance.
The finalists are :
