Another week of racing and it’s another feature meeting during the Ladbrokes Summer Racing Festival, this time the 7BU Burnie Cup on Sunday afternoon. Read the thoughts of trainer-driver Mark Yole for the Hobart and Burnie programs.
Weekend best
Burnie Race 2 – 6. My Ultimate Jacko
This race is a feature, the Thorate Incentive and I think I have a great chance to take it out. This bloke was a bit disappointing at his first outing in the state when running second here a month ago. I did drive him quite aggressively on that occasion and I think he just got a bit lost out in front. From the 20m handicap I won’t be able to drive him like that and will attempt to use his high speed and come with one run late. If I’m close enough he will give a great sight.
Under the radar
Hobart Race 6 – 8. Aha Reaction
This fellow’s run simply had to be seen to be believed last week in Launceston. He galloped in the score up and missed the start over the mile trip by approximately 50m, he then chased hard, tacked on, and was still able to run fifth! In a mile rate of 1:55!!!
If he has recovered from that run, I think he will be right in this race. He draws inside the second row, and I’d expect the one horse to lead so he should get a lovely trip and if I can get to the sprint lane he should be finishing powerfully.
Black booker
This horse is going really well and featured in this article last week. He ran a great race and did plenty of work to find the lead in a very fast lead time. I then elected to bowl along in front and that was my undoing as the winner got a suck along on my back and was able to outsprint me up the home straight.
He has a tricky race on Sunday as he can be touch and go from the stand at times. However, I think if I can get him away safely, and if not lead get some cover, he will be very hard to beat.
Best value
Hobart Race 9 – 3. We Salute You
Interesting runner here. He has been flying over the last couple of months. He is a sit sprinter that can really find the line with a soft run. I think he will get that here as he maps to sit on the back of Iden Miss Lucy, who is as tough as they come. She will get me well into the straight and I just need to peel him into clean air, and he will be right in the finish.
Inside word
I just wanted to make a special mention to young Tamsyn Davis. Last week while in Launceston I witnessed what I would describe as the nicest thing I’ve ever seen on a race track. I was watching the pony race as my nephew Hudson was having his first night racing in the pony trots. Tamsyn was able to win the first pony race after coming from last and proving too good while Hudson finished second last. However, in the second race Hudson was leading and with approximately 50 metres to go it looked like Tamsyn was going to go straight past him however she saw he was trying to hold on and just eased her horse a bit so that he was able to feel the joy of winning, she finished second.
I just want to say how grateful I am that she did that and it showed that sometimes there are more important things in life than just winning. I commend her and her parents on the way this young lady put someone else before herself.
