Race viewers may have noticed a bright new set of colours being worn on the Tabcorp Park Menangle track yesterday.

Jack Callaghan was debuting the all-cerise silks as part of the inaugural season of Harness Racing NSW’s hugely popular Fantasy Harness Racing initiative.

Each week the highest scoring driver from the previous round will wear the leader’s colours at race meetings they are competing in.

Callaghan was the first to parade the new look following his opening round score of 77 points which topped the driver’s leader board.

His points score included five winners in week 1 across race meetings at Tabcorp Park Menangle and Newcastle.

He was slightly ahead of fellow young-gun Josh Gallagher who turned in an equally impressive 69 points in the first week.

“One of the unknowns when the game was built was not really knowing what a good cumulative score might be but we saw that Jack and Josh both set the bar very high with some outstanding performances in round 1,” HRNSW Head of Marketing and Communications Paul Cochrane said.

“Jack was a very popular selection and savvy team managers did choose him as their captain which earned them double points so there were a lot of happy owners cheering on his drives which was great to see.”

“On the back of that he will now wear the leader’s silks which are deliberately bold and bright and designed to be a real status symbol of achievement for drivers who top the Fantasy Harness Racing leader board the previous week.”

“It’s exciting to see it being worn at Australia’s best track and we look forward to seeing different drivers take up the honour over the next 23 weeks of the Fantasy Harness Racing game.”

Fantasy Harness Racing is open to all. Registered players are given a virtual salary cap of $14.4 million to pick a squad of 22 drivers from a list of participants who have been priced based on their past results. Their points accrue in line with their real race results at six selected race meetings each week.

There are more than $60,000 worth of prizes up for grabs, including a $250 Harvey Norman voucher for the highest points-scorer each week.
