The unrelenting weather pattern of rain and more rain on the eastern seaboard continues to delay the construction of the $3.5million Bathurst Training Centre.
Funded substantially through the $2.9million NSW Government Grant, the training centre built on a greenfield area of Gold Crown Paceway, has encountered issues with excavation or in construction parlay ‘getting out of the ground’ and has missed the envisaged 2022 completion date.
The project has seen it all as far as delays are concerned according to HRNSW Chief Executive John Dumesny.
“On the very day we were to exchange contracts with the builder Tablelands the Coronavirus struck so with the great uncertainty HRNSW didn’t commit to the project that was in March 2020,” said Dumesny.
“When the opportunity of potential Government COVID funding was opened, HRNSW made applications and through the support of our Racing Minister Kevin Anderson and the Deputy Premier Paul Toole, we were successful in 2021 to receive funding at the original contract price.
“As evidenced across the construction industry, costs were significantly increased and negotiations were recommenced causing another slight delay.
“And now we have the relentless rain but with fine weather and an uninterrupted build, visitors to the Gold Crown Carnival in March will see real progress.”
HRNSW earlier this year purchased the Gold Crown Paceway in partnership with the Bathurst Club for $1million from the Bathurst Regional Council.
