The $1.2million upgrade to the grandstand and refurbishment of the permanent stalls at Paceway Tamworth will be completed for the 2023 Multiquip Golden Guitar.
Harness Racing New South Wales since purchasing the former showground for $3.9million in 2016 has undertaken a ‘clean-up’ of the property, the roofing of the race stalls, new officials pod, renovation of the public grand stand and refurbishment of the permanent stalls at a further cost of $2million.
The investment in Tamworth has delivered on the objectives of the Controlling Body according to HRNSW Chief Executive John Dumesny.
“The Board and Management revisited the strategy in place for the north-west and in particular at Tamworth and seized on the opportunity to purchase the old showground rather than build at the new site,” Dumesny said.
“What has been extremely encouraging is the involvement both financially and supportive of HRNSW endeavours of the Tamworth Harness Racing Club Committee over the past two years.
“This refreshing approach by the Club under the leadership of Stef (van Aanholt) and Joyce (Walsh) included significant investment by the Club itself to provide patrons with improved amenities.”
Whilst the current overall investment is $7.1million, it is money well spent as HRNSW still holds the Burgmanns Lane property which will return income to the industry in the future.
