HE’S been a cut above his rivals since debut, but reputation alone won’t be enough to guarantee Jamaican Rock victory in tonight’s Southern Cross Final at Globe Derby.
Despite his confidence in the son of A Rocknroll Dance trainer Ryan Hryhorec realises Jamaican Rock needs to “stand up” in the decider.
Boasting five wins and a third from six starts, Jamaican Rock is a $1.90 TAB Fixed Odds favourite in the $30,000 feature.
“He gave me really good confidence with his heat win last week as he went terrific,” Hryhorec said.
“I don’t think there is any doubt he is the one to beat, but he’ll certainly have to stand up tonight.
“He’s raced and beaten all except one, but as a collective field, this would be the toughest.
“The draw has also made it interesting.”
Citing Lifeisbutadream as the likely leader from barrier two, Hryhorec expects Jamaican Rock to be working hard in the ‘death seat’ from gate five.
“I’ve run the race through my head a few times and still think Hes All Torque is the biggest danger even from the back row,” Hryhorec said.
“I’d say the lead is there for Lifeisbutadream, which will put us outside him and maybe open for something to come from behind.
“If the speed is on it brings those out the back into it and that’s where Hes All Torque will thrive.”
