24 November 2022 | Mark Yole for Tasracing

Ahead of another weekend with two Tasmanian harness meetings, in-form trainer/driver Mark Yole gives his thoughts in Make your Mark and the inside word is an interview with Ben Woodsford.

Weekend best

Hobart Race 2 – 9. Foregone Conclusion

With no real standout hopes this week I’ve gone with this bloke on an each-way basis. I think he is going quite nicely, and he gets a great trailing draw over the mile trip. He should settle handy and then I can work into the race when I feel the time is right. He is a momentum horse that lacks high speed. This field is not strong so he should be running top three.

Under the radar

Launceston Race 2 – 8. Aha Reaction

Very unsuited at his two previous runs from the standing start. Back to the mobile here and from the draw he should get a nice run just off the pace. If I can save him for the last 400m he should be able to unleash his powerful sprint and be right in the finish.

Wish I was in the sulky

Launceston Race 6 – 1. Czarina

Not a lot of good form on paper in this race. I’ve gone the way of this one as it has a great draw. It has shown to have gate speed in its three starts. I thought its trials and then its first race start were promising. It then went into the much stronger Granny Smith Sires’ Stakes races where it ran okay in the heat and then got tangled up in the final with the big fall. As I said, it gets the draw to settle either in front or behind the leader and from there Charlie will give her every chance to bring up its first win.

Black booker

Launceston Race 3 – 1. Son of Rayson

A horse I never thought I would be putting in this article, however he has really come on at his last two runs and I think his trainer may be starting to work him out. Those last two starts he has had to do a lot of work in the run and battled on very well. Here he comes up with the one draw and he has the gate speed to hold the lead. From there he will get every chance to get back in the winner’s circle.
