Menangle was a happy hunting ground for many trainers last Saturday night including Bathurst horsewoman Ashlee Grives.
Once rated as one of the top drivers in NSW, Grives scaled back her harness racing involvement, perusing an interest in thoroughbred training.
This season, Grives has stepped up her pacing starters, delivering her first Group 1 victory when her filly Saveeon won the NSW Breeders Challenge Blue Final at Menangle at the weekend.
“It’s great,” said Grives.
“I just hoped she had one more run in her and she ran well in the end.”
After remaining undefeated in the Breeders Challenge major series until finishing fifth in the final, Saturday night was Saveeon’s time to shine.
“It just worked out perfectly in the end,” said Grives. Grives has prepared 12 winners this season.
Racing returns to Menangle today with eight races.
