Three drivers have been selected to fly the Kiwi flag at the upcoming Australasian Young Drivers’ Championships (AYDC) in Victoria.
The country’s top junior driver Sarah O’Reilly gets another chance to win the title she won in 2019, and she’ll be joined by Auckland’s Crystal Hackett and Canterbury’s Sam Thornley.
O’Reilly and Hackett sealed selection by being the best performed drivers in the South and North Islands this year, while Thornley clinched his place by finishing second to O’Reilly at the recently completed New Zealand Junior Drivers’ Championships at Methven and Kaikoura.
O’Reilly, a now three-time New Zealand junior drivers’ champion , won the Australasian Young Drivers’ Championships when they were last held in 2019. The 2020 and 2021 editions were cancelled because of Covid.
This year’s AYDC will be run alongside the Inter Dominions.
There will be nine races at five different tracks starting with Ararat, Ballarat, Maryborough, and Bendigo before the huge finale on Inter Dominion Grand Final night at Melton on December 10.
