With a massive winning margin, not even copping early pressure could slow Bold Jackie down, with the three-year-old going on to space the field by more than 41m on the line to claim bragging rights in the last on the card at Northam for local trainer Christine Worrall and Kyle Harper in the cart.
Beginning well off barrier two in race seven, Bold Jackie copped plenty of pressure early, but after holding the lead, she still proved too good for the rest of the field over the 2190m journey, recording a winning mile rate of 2:01:9, giving the lightly races youngster her first win.
“After Mysty, No (wasn’t confident), Mysty ran a shocker in the second and somebody asked me how she (Bold Jackie) is going to go and I said the way Mysty went, I have no idea.”
“I was really surprised, and he didn’t even pull the plugs on her, which is good because she would have kicked a bit more.”
Purchasing the then two-year-old for just a mere $2000, Worrall gave her four weeks off before commencing her training, and after a long preparation into racing, she resumed in May this year where she’s since gone on to have 10 starts for four placings and now the win for her new connections.
“I bought her off Jess Moore, he had her for sale and nobody was interested in her and I’ve had her nearly 12 months now,”
“I really got her as a companion for Magical Mysty because she had suspensory trouble, so I got her to keep her quiet, but she’s nice little horse, she’s a bad knee knocker though.”
With Worrall and her husband the owners of the stockfeed up in Northam, there is a very little time for them to travel around to the various racetracks in WA, and with North Eastern Districts Derby race no longer a lead into the Country Derby final, Worrall isn’t sure where Bold Jackie is off to next.
“I’m just a little hobby trainer and we’re not out to win a million bucks, I’m happy to just run a ticky.”
With seven races on the card at Northam on Saturday, the first went the way of Rollindowntheriver for Mike Beech and Stuart McDonald. The three-year-old brought up his fourth career win at his 27th start after coming from behind to win by 3.1m over the 1780m trip in 1:57:9.
Ray Williams and Aldo Cortopassi combined to bring up a double with the short-priced favourite Cyclone Charlotte NZ taking out race two over the 2190m in 1:59:2 after working her way to the breeze and proving too good for her rivals. Race five went the way of Lucky Galleon NZ after leading all the way over the 2620m staying trip at $1.09 odds for favourite punters.
Stars Of Gold went all the way in race three for Sam Torre and Chris Voak to record the mares third career victory in 75 starts. the five-year-old managed to kick away to win by 10.9m in 1:58:5 over the 1780m trip.
After making full use of the sprint lane in the final stages of race five, Zyanya went one better this week to get the win for Garry Sayers and Shannon Suvaljko over the 2190m journey in 2:00:1.
Trainer and driver Shane Young took the win in race six with Goddess Of Reason coming from the rear of the field over the 1780m trip, with Young taking her wide for the final 400m to win by a head in 1:59:2.
