Millionaire trotter Sundees Son is back.
The reigning Horse of the Year was back to his brilliant best, winning this afternoon’s IRT South Bay Trotters Cup at Kaikoura in a new race record.
The seven-year-old took out the 2400m Group 3 in 2:59.42.
After gallops in his last two races a question mark hung over the champion’s form but after a steady start from the 15m backmark John Dunn found the front with a lap to go and gave no-one else a chance.
Midnight Dash did just that up the passing lane to grab second from Matua Tana.
The well-favoured Bolt For Brilliance ran on without threatening his great rival while Smokin Bandar led early but lost all chance with a gallop.
Sundees Son’s win couldn’t be more timely as he guns for his third straight win in the Renwick Farms Dominion on Friday, November 11 at Addington.
