27 October 2022 | Mark Yole for Tasracing
Racing is back in Burnie this weekend and last time harness racing was there, Mark Yole steered punters into a winner with his best of the night. Mark once again likes one of his chances in particular on Friday night, and his inside word is a chat with fellow driver Nathan Ford.
Weekend best
Friday Race 2 – 1. My Ultimate Jimbo
My best comes up early this weekend at Burnie. This horse has travelled down from Queensland and comes up with the plumb pole draw. He appears to have the gate speed to comfortably hold the front and from there will take plenty of catching. He’s only lightly raced but is a last start winner at Redcliffe.
Under the radar
Sunday Race 4 – 3. Bridwood Charly
I was really impressed with the way this horse has trialled. She makes her debut here which will be a step up, however she showed lovely gate speed in winning that trial on Monday. She has come up with a favourable draw in three where she should be able to cross to the lead early. Her main danger Moth Hunter is drawn outside her and was very green at its first start coming out of the mobile. She was very unlucky there and I do like her, but I’m going the way of Bridwood Charly, just with the better manners she has shown. I believe both these two horses will run the quinella.
Wish I was in the sulky
Sunday Race 8 – 4. Baby You A Song
Second heat of the 3YO fillies Sires’ Stakes here and due to the fact the first heat winners are not eligible to run in the second heat I feel this filly should be too good for her five other rivals. She has the gate speed to find the lead and from there can dictate the speed and will be winning.
Black booker
Sunday Race 9 – 8. Midnight in Memphis
Courtesy of a nice trailing draw this fellow gets a good chance. His last few starts he has been hitting the line nicely. I expect the one horse to hold the front as he has led at both his runs from a spell. I should be able to hold the position behind him and will get my chance up the sprint lane.
