Harness Racing New Zealand would like to send its sincere condolences to the family of Murray Edmonds, who died this week after a short illness.
The Motukarara-based trainer-driver was a hugely popular figure in the sport, who trained 377 winners and had 345 driving victories since starting out in the 1980s.
Such was the love for Murray that a recent fund-raising dinner for the Edmonds family at Addington Raceway was sold out in hours.
Not only did more than 300 people, including Murray himself, take part in the evening but many people and businesses generously donated goods and services to be auctioned on the night.
Murray was only recently diagnosed as having a brain tumour. He was 62.
HRNZ would like to extend its heartfelt sympathy to the Edmonds family at what is obviously a very difficult time for them. An obituary will be available on this website later in the week.
