The SA Breeders, Owners, Trainers and Reinsmen’s Association has announced several important initiatives that will provide a fillip to the 2016 Harnessbred.com SA Yearling Sale to be held at Globe Derby Park on Sunday, February 21.
SA BOTRA will provide a $1,000 bonus to the breeder of the winner of the Sale Graduate race in 2017.
In further good news for the sale it has been decided that the starting time has been brought forward to 11am.
“This is because we think that interstate visitors and trainers here for the Oaks will stay and also the heat factor in February,” SA BOTRA committeeman Gary Newton said.
SA BOTRA has reinforced their long term investment in the sale in announcing that they plan to breed a foal every year out of a strong female line by a top stallion as a fundraiser to support the industry in the State.
BOTRA committeeman Gary Crocker has gifted the Association the well bred broodmare Eight Orangutans (Art Major-Roxy Bay) and she will be bred to the multiple Group winner Alta Christiano this season. The stallion service was donated by prominent WA breeder and bloodstock authority John Coffey.
The resultant progeny will be raised by Steve Norman at Allenby Lodge and will be offered at the SA Yearling Sale in 2018.
“Every year there will be a foal in the yearling sale out of a mare that has been donated to SA BOTRA,” Crocker stated.
