16 September 2022 | Duncan Dornauf for Tasracing

Conor Crook and Rohan Hillier are ready to represent Tasmania at Saturday night’s Australian Drivers Championship at Adelaide’s Globe Derby Park.

Both drivers were automatically selected per Tasracing racing policy after a stellar 2021 season.

Conor won the state drivers’ premiership, driving 90 winners in the state during the term, including the Group 2 Evicus Final with Miss Papenhuyzen, and this season has recorded 42 wins, including the Group 3 Devonport Cup with Lip Reader.

He hasn’t driven in the state for several months after relocating to Victoria to further his career.

“I spent the last six years in Tassie, and 99.9% of my success has been there, and I’m honoured to be representing them on Saturday,” said Conor.

It will be the first time Hillier has represented the state, and he is looking forward to the opportunity.

“It’s a big honour to represent the state, and I hope to make the state proud.

“But these series come down to a lot of luck, so hopefully, it’s on our side,” said Hillier.

Hillier’s biggest wins in the sulky include the Group 1 Victorian Oaks with Barynya, and Tasmania’s premier race, the Tasmania Cup with Ryley Major, in 2020.

Both Conor and Rohan will compete in eight of the 11 heats, with the series winner determined on a points structure.

The meeting commences significantly earlier than the usual time for Globe Derby meetings at 5:32 pm (Tas Time) and can be seen on Sky Racing 1.
