Trainer Brent Lilley will play a major role in tomorrow night’s Group 1 Aldebaran Park Bill Collins Trotters Sprint at Tabcorp Park Melton.
Lilley’s brilliant mare Maori Time uncharacteristically made a couple of mistakes at her latest start in the Scotch Notch, but Lilley said she had a legitimate excuse and would be hard to beat tomorrow night.
“We found a problem with her in that she had a pulled muscle over her back. She has since been treated and worked really good so I’m confident that she will be back to her best,” Lilley said.
Maori Time has drawn gate two and Lilley expects her to roll forward and run along.
“That’s her go running along over the shorter trip, we hope to lead on her and put the handlebars down on her a bit because she is strong and can pump out good sectionals over the mile.”
Lilley also has Kyvalley Blur engaged, which has been racing well but has drawn poorly. Lilley said he can run another ripping race with a shade of luck.
“If he can get a nice run in transit he will be booming home. He has been racing really well without much luck. I’m sure he will be right in the thick of things at the finish with a nice run in the race.”
Lilley also has Kvintet Avenger in the race. He is the first emergency and Lilley made the point that he is getting back close to his best.
The main danger to the Lilley runners will be Glenferrie Typhoon and Lilley is wary of the Andy Gath trained rising star, but he admits the draw favours Maori Time on Friday Night.
