EXPRESSIONS of interest for a slot in the world’s richest harness race close on Monday (August 1).
The $2.1 million TAB Eureka will be run for the first time at Club Menangle on September 2, next year.
Harness Racing Australia has been thrilled with the level of interest in the TAB Eureka since expressions of interest opened on June 1.
“This is a last call-out, a final reminder if you like, for anyone or any group who may be considering an expression of interest for a slot but hasn’t done so as yet,” HRA CEO Andrew Kelly said.
“It’s shaping really well and we’ve had the expressions open for two months so all interested parties have plenty of time to put their best application forward.”
Importantly, all applicants seeking a slot have the opportunity to to detail how they will promote the event and the broader sport of harness racing.
“This event will be its greatest success with everyone working collaboratively,” Kelly said. “More generally, this is an unprecedented event that will be talked about 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year. The talk started straight after the launch a few months back and kept growing since. We want that to continue.”
Once expressions of interest are finalised, an independent panel will be appointed to assess all applications for slots and make recommendations back to the HRA Executive. The marketing, integrity and legal components of all applications will be considered.
Those successful in securing a slot will have to commit to a three-year deal and an upfront payment of $300,000, covering $100,000 per year per slot.
