CAWDOR trainer Paul Fitzpatrick has, for some time now, been excited over the prospects of stable star Zuess Bromac and for very good reason.

As a juvenile, Zeuss Bromac won him a Breeders Crown final and in the 20 months since, the entire has worked through his grades to become one of the state’s best open-class pacers.

On Saturday night at Tabcorp Park Menangle, Zeuss Bromac was dominant in leading throughout to win the Rain Saver Water Systems Vic Frost Free For All, booking a trip to Queensland where he will take on some of Australasia’s best pacers.

“Ever since coming out of aged-restricted races “Zeuss” has just kept taking the next step up,” said Fitzpatrick.

“He has done enough to earn a trip to Queensland where he will contest the upcoming Sunshine Sprint and the Blacks A Fake and I am confident that he will be a serious contender in both races.”

Fitzpatrick took over the training of Zeuss Bromac when he was sent to him as a three-year-old after starting his career with Zac Butcher in New Zealand’s North Island.

After placings in a heat and final of the 2020 NSW Derby, the pacer tasted Group 1 success in Victoria before being spelled.

The son of Bettors Delight returned to racing as a four-year-old to win the Hondo Grattan Stakes and then backed that up with a brave second behind Expensive Ego in the 2021 Chariots Of Fire in class record time.

“We raced him sparingly as a three and four-year-old, winning the Breeders Crown and some other nice races,” said Fitzpatrick.

“And his placing in the Chariots proved that he was up there with the best of them.

“We then had him ticking over perfectly for a tilt at the Inter Dominion at the end of 2021, but unfortunately were forced to withdraw him at the last minute due to illness.”

The now five-year-old bounced back into the Group 1 winners’ list earlier this year when he took out the Ainsworth Free-For-All on Miracle Mile night.

“I do think the horse has come back even stronger this time around and looks set for his best season yet,” said Fitzpatrick.

Harness racing heads to Newcastle this afternoon with the first race at 1.33pm with the TAB Long May We Play 2yo Maiden Pace, the first of eight races.
