SATURDAY night’s Group One is a reminder of why it pays to buy from Australian Pacing Gold.
Of the six Aussie-bred pacers in the Redcliffe Gold Cup four were purchase through APG Sales, while one of the other two is raced by the breeder who paid a non-entry fee to be eligible for APG’s rich race series!
As for the ‘fab four’, they include Captain Crusader, Make Mine Memphis, Turn It Up and Sebs Choice, with the latter pair among the favourites in the 2613-metre handicap.
Boasting five wins from his last six starts, Sebs Choice is ready to claim an overdue major according to regular driver Michelle Phillips.
Already successful at Group Two and Three level the Victorian raider has drawn to search for the lead from barrier three.
Sebs Choice made an impressive Queensland debut last weekend by scoring under similar conditions at the same venue.
“He has proven himself well and truly and I like to think he’s one of the top betting picks in the Cup,” Phillips said.
“He’s in top form and certainly has no problem with the longer trip.”
Despite his recent success, which came after racing in the ‘death seat’, Sebs Choice was less then perfect according to Phillips.
“He was a bit slow away last time as he had a little look around when the tapes were released,” Phillips said.
“He has been better than that at the trials, but they do it a bit differently up here to what we do back home.
“They circle differently prior to the start and stand a little longer which confused him a bit, but hopefully he won’t hesitate this time and be too quick at the start and get to the top.
“If he can find the front it will take a big effort to run him down.”
