Wagga Wagga, NSW, 21 June 2022 – Wagga Harness Racing Club announced today that Terry McMillan has officially resigned from his five and a half-year post as President of Wagga Harness Racing Club, effective 20 June, 2022.
In his statement, McMillan explained the resignation is due to personal reasons.
“We’ve had many great accomplishments during my tenure which I’m extremely proud of. Moving to the new facility in Cartwright Hill was a major boost to the region and the city of Wagga. There is no doubt Riverina Paceway will be a leading Club for years to come.”
Vice President Maurice Finemore will become the Acting President until the next Annual General Meeting scheduled in November.
During his tenure, McMillan and Wagga Harness Racing Club celebrated numerous achievements but perhaps the most instrumental victory was assisting the Wagga Harness Racing Club relocate from the Wagga Showgrounds to the new track location in Cartwright Hills in 2019 and named Riverina Paceway. The Club has since gone from 35 to 52 meetings annually.
McMillan also received an Appreciation Award from Harness Racing New South Wales in 2019 for his dedication to Wagga Harness Racing Club.
“Terry has served the Club extremely well in his leadership through times of expansion and renewal,” HRNSW Chief Executive John Dumesny said.
“The previous Chair Linda Inwood had set the solid foundations for the successful transfer from the Showgrounds. Under Terry’s command the extremely dedicated band of voluntary Committee members helped deliver the show piece which is the new Riverina Paceway complex.
“The establishment of the current management structure was a goal that Terry pursued with vigour and, mission accomplished, he has now elected to bow out.
“On behalf of the Board and Management of HRNSW as well as the industry at large I wish him all the very best in retirement from the Committee.”
Riverina Paceway, formally called Wagga Harness Racing Club, was formed in the early 1950’s. The first race being conducted on the 18th of December 1953.
