Around half a million dollars will be on offer in next year’s Sires’ Stakes races for the country’s top three-year-old pacers and trotters.
The changes to the racing calendar will see the Garrard’s Horse & Hound Colts and Geldings at Addington on May 12th, the Magness Benrow Fillies and Lone Star Trotters at Alexandra Park a week later (May 19) and the prestigious Nevele R 3YO Fillies race on NZ Cup Day in November.
“The final stakes haven’t been determined yet but we are thinking the four key races will be worth upwards of $500,000,” says NZ Sires’ Stakes Executive Martin Pierson, “with the the Magness Benrow Fillies and the Nevele R Fillies potentially worth as much as $270,000 between them.”
“They are some of the most eagerly anticipated races that produce champions, just look at Bettor Twist and Amazing Dream in the last two Nevele R series finals.”
The closing date for the 3YO payments, along with foal nominations and yearling sustaining payments, is July 1 2022.
“Remittances were either posted or emailed out to the appropriate financial contacts last week,” says Pierson,” and already there’s been a great response but there is still plenty of time to get involved.”
Nomination and sustaining payments vary from $135 to $330 depending on the series and age group with fully paid up options also available.
