The TABradio APG Series 30 4YO Consolation Final (1730m) highlights an interesting night of harness racing at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

The $50,000 Group 2 feature has only attracted eight starters, but it promises to be an enthralling affair.

Members of the WA Trotting Media Guild have bypassed the feature when settling on their best bets for the night and have flagged a swag of winners from the No.1 gate.

Guild president Wayne Currall believes punters can get the night off on a winning note by supporting polemarker Pradason in the opening event.

“I think Pradason could be the first of a number of polemarkers attempting all-the-way victories,” Currall said. “Trainer-reinsman Aiden De Campo has this bloke racing in great heart with three wins from his past four starts. Pradason won over this trip at headquarters last month and looks like starting the night off well for favourite backers.”

Longshot guru Pat Harding continues the theme of pacers starting from gate one as being hard to beat.

“Looks like being a favourites night at GP this Friday,” Harding said. “My best bet comes up in race two with the Bond-trained Booraa. She has some good figures on the board and I think she can make it three wins from six starts from barrier one.”

The West Australian’s racing co-ordinator Ryan Havercroft has also opted for a polemarker as his best bet.

“Jack Farthing has not won in his last nine appearances, managing just one placing in that time, yet will start as a short-priced favourite on Friday,” Havercroft said. “Most of those runs were in free-for-all company and his form has improved since dropping in class for his past couple. Drawing barrier one enhances his prospects and he should return to winning form here.”

The West Australian’s Ernie Manning also likes a horse stating from the coveted rails.

“Quality mare Born To Boogie, who showed early speed and scored a front running win from gate three last month, should be hard to beat with a pole draw this week,” Manning said. “She has run thirds after drawing gates six and five at her past two starts. The seven-year-old looks close to form she showed in Gloucester Park wins at four consecutive appearances last October and November. She has the impressive record of seven wins and five places in 13 starts at headquarters.”

And making it a clean sweep of polemarkers on the night, TABradio’s Hayden King has also gone for a horse carrying the No.1 saddlecloth.

“Quartzz trialed up like a coming winner at Byford when holding off Lucapelo,” King said. “From the pole, she gets a massive chance to lead throughout.”

VALUE BETS

WAYNE: Arma Einstein is drawn to get a lovely drag in behind likely leader Jack Farthing and could fill the quinella from there.

PAT: My double comes up in race five with yet another horse from barrier one. Born To Boogie has been very consistent and is due for another win.

RYAN: Sameplace Sametime looks a place chance, having the option of dropping straight behind likely leader Booraa in a small field.

ERNIE: Valbonne has not won in his past 25 starts, but is showing plenty of zest. The tally from his past 13 races is four seconds, five thirds, three fourths and a sixth. He has been freshened since finishing second after racing three-wide last month.

HAYDEN: While Ima Rockabilly Rebel won’t be a large price, I think he could come up overs. With Blitzembye drawn one and taking a significant portion of the market, he could come up at OK odds. Blitzembye might not be ready yet, whereas Ima Rockabilly Rebel is thoroughly airborne.
