HE’S pumped and he’s ready.

And ace reinsman Jack Trainor is looking to leave Tabcorp Park Menangle with a full head of steam when he heads back to New Zealand with champion mare Stylish Memphis, after her fast-finishing fifth to Majestic Cruiser on Saturday night.

Trainor will be hoping to leave ‘Town’ on a winning note when he introduces another former Kiwi pacer, Town Echo to the local scene this afternoon.

First-up from Addington in New Zealand’s South Island, Trainor said Town Echo, a winner of six races, four of them at the roomy Addington circuit in Christchurch, ticked all the boxes and would contest Race 9 at Menangle today, where she has been installed a $1.55 early favourite on the back of her form across the Tasman.

“She had a couple of starts in Melbourne on a previous trip here and didn’t really fire and has had a few different trainers in New Zealand but I really like this mare,” Trainor told National Trotguide’s Mike Ko’cass.

“She seems to have found some consistent form since then and judging on her trackwork and her heart rate and where I like to have them going into a race, I think she’ll go well.

“She does have gate speed and is very versatile, with a good turn of foot, and she can also come from the back.

“I haven’t worked out which way I’ll go yet but I know she will hit the line well.”

Despite Stylish Memphis’ defeat on Saturday night, Trainor said he couldn’t be happier with the mare as she prepares to head for what is being hailed New Zealand’s richest harness race.

“We were out there to win on Saturday night but it was also about having a horse for next week as well,” he said.

“I’m very happy with how she went, especially her last quarter as she sprinted well up the straight.

“She’ll now fly over to New Zealand’s on Sunday and I’ll fly over a couple of hours behind her.

“I’m really excited about being given the chance to compete in this race with her and I can’t thank her owners enough for sticking with me.

“I’m hoping Mum and Dad can be there to watch us compete at Cambridge but that’s on the North Island and I think they may also have a horse racing down at the bottom of the South Island the same day.”
