With the WomenCan Team Teal campaign drawing to a close on Tuesday, 15 March, Club Menangle is pleased to announce that a total of $7000.00 has been raised at our track.
WomenCan Team Teal aims to raise funds and awareness for ovarian cancer with donations supporting ANZGOG research and education programs including Survivors Teaching Students (STS) and the Patient Referral Network.
The campaign, which began on Tuesday 1 February, saw Club Menangle pledge to donate $200.00 for each female training or driving win at any of our race meetings in the six week period.
Throughout the campaign at Club Menangle, 30 wins were recorded by a horse trained or driven by a female, with five of these wins alone contributing a $400.00 donation as both the trainer and driver were female.
Club Menangle CEO Bruce Christison said, “Club Menangle is proud to be part of the Team Teal campaign, not only does this campaign raise valuable funds for the Australian New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group, it also generates awareness of ovarian cancer through the spotlight of female participants.”
“Thank you to our female participants for championing this great cause and for their overall contribution to the sport of Harness Racing. Club Menangle raised $7,000.00 at our track adding to the NSW total of $73,500.00”.
Night Two of the Sky Racing Carnival of Miracles, Schweppes Ladies Night, saw ten talented reinswomen participate in the Vodka Cruiser Lady Drivers Invitational Pace (Penalty Free).
Claiming driving honours was Bathurst based Emma Turnbull with KerryAnn Morris and Amanda Turnbull finishing in second and third.
Belinda McCarthy was also our most successful contributor, with ten training wins recorded throughout the campaign, including the Grand Circuit event, the Garrards Miracle Mile with King Of Swing NZ.
NSW Team Teal ambassador KerryAnn Morris recorded seven training victories and one driving victory at Club Menangle over the six week period. Aleisha Bond was also a notable contributor as she partnered with two horses trained by KerryAnn to success, including Majestic Hurricane NZ and Sunny Gee, to which she drove the latter to two wins in the Teal pants.
Victorian visitor Jess Tubbs also added a win to the tally when Better Eclipse took out the Group One Cordina Chicken Farms Chariots of Fire.
Following the success of the 2022 WomenCan Team Teal campaign, Club Menangle look forward to participating in the 2023 edition. Further details will be announced closer to the commencement.
