Being a proud Melbournian it’s practically illegal to barrack for Sydney to be the top anything…it’s almost as bad as having a winner from a Collingwood and Essendon game….almost!

But these are stressful times given the results of yesterday’s Australian Pacing Gold Sale.

With record results across the afternoon, Perth has taken the title as the venue of APG’s best sale.

Sydney is poised to host the final leg of Sunday…and while it is well, Sydney…at least the throne can return to the east coast where it belongs.

APG’s Perth catalogue had 62 colts/geldings and 60 fillies listed, with close to 90 per cent of those entering the ring sold.

Lot 387 – a son of American Ideal and WA Oaks winner Our Major Mama – topped the day after being purchased by Team Bond for $150,000.

Another 16 lots sold for more than $50,000 – smashing the previous Perth record of nine $50,000 plus sales.

Lynley Park outlaid $85,000 for the highest priced filly, which is also by American Ideal from Group One winner Eagle Rox.

Turnover increased by a whopping 25.8 per cent, while the Sale’s average was also up almost 26 per cent.

The latter figure is on the back of a 25 per cent improvement in 2021!

Then of course there is the battle between my Sydney-based colleague Michael Court and I as we pick a colt and filly we believe is the best in the Sale.

Court selected Lots 303 and 345 which sold for $40,000 and $45,000.

My two – Lots 312 and 365 – where purchased for $85,000 and $65,000.

With the ledger sitting at a five-to-one ratio in my favour across the three sales, I hold an unbeatable lead, but my well-seasoned colleague will definitely be trying to ‘save face’ during the weekend.

Our selections will be revealed later in the week.
