A VALUABLE contributor to the cause in recent years, South Australian reinswoman Tiana McMahon edged the Teal Pants Team to a significant milestone with her success at Globe Derby yesterday.

Like every reinswomen throughout Australia and New Zealand, McMahon is sporting specially-designed driving pants as a participant of the Teal Pants Campaign.

Between February 1 and March 15 the leading ladies wear teal pants as part of the extraordinary crusade to raise crucial funding and valuable awareness towards ovarian cancer research and education.

Each state’s governing body, various principal clubs and the TAB have combined to donate $400 to WomenCan for each victory.

Western Australia has taken a different approach and is donating $15,000.

Triumphant with Thumbs Up in the opening event on the card, McMahon notched the 150th Australian win of the campaign.

Overall Australia’s ‘golden girls’ leading ladies are averaging 7.9 wins a day!

“I’ve had a good run during teal pants time in past years, but I’ve had a slow start this year and that was my first win in teal,” McMahon said.

“Hopefully I can pick up a few more wins before the campaign is finished and contribute just that little bit more.”

Beginning quickly to lead from barrier three, Thumbs Up cruised to a soft 10-metre win from Malachite Rock, with Passionate Pursuit two-and-a-half metres away third.

Trained by McMahon’s partner, astute horseman Robert Caton, the son of Mach Three rated 2:00.2 over 1800 metres.

“Once got to the front and was able to hold out any challenges, I felt really good about his chances,” McMahon said.

“Robbie’s only had him for two starts for a third and a win, and on yesterday’s run, it’s reasonable to assume he can win a few more.”
