The annual Teal Pants campaign has received a major boost, with a bumper day on the grass at Gore.
And it was a real team effort yesterday, with six wins from five female drivers (and their teal pants). It was Team Teal’s best day so far this campaign.
Sarah O’Reilly had two wins (Fast Whispering and Timzee), with sisters Sheree Tomlinson (Jafa Express) and Kerryn Tomlinson (Domination’s Call), and Teal Pants ambassadors Sam Ottley (Lou’s Deal) and Kirstin Barclay (Still Rockin) all chipping in.
Ottley also had two wins on Saturday at Rangiora (Webs Reactor, Sioux Princess) and Ineka Lee won with Taurus.
The campaign is exactly halfway through – it started three weeks ago and finishes in mid March – and the total currently stands at 27 wins.
With Harness Racing New Zealand, clubs and a number of other sponsors all contributing to the cause the tally is climbing steadily and is now at $7300. That total includes the $810 raised by the sale of a complete set of Trotting Annuals on Trade Me, courtesy of Art Bloxham and the Riverton Trotting Club.
All money goes to funding ovarian cancer research.
This is the fifth year that the Teal Pants campaign has been going in this country, after being established across the Tasman.
Because of Covid restrictions on-course collections are not possible so anyone wanting to donate they can do so here
