The buzz of having a horse in the Inter Dominions is tempered for Ross Wilson by the thought of missing his stable star.
Wilson and his son Chris will have one of the surprise entrants in the Inters which start at Menangle on Saturday week with Robyn’s Playboy having already crossed the Tasman from his Southland base.
The 12-race winner has joined KerryAnn and Robbie Morris’s Menangle stables but not solely for the series.
“He is actually going over there to stay,” says Wilson.
“We have been thinking about it for a while and have a good association with Robbie and KerryAnn and have had 5 or 6 horses there before.
“The reality is the horse hasn’t won a race this year and every time we want to race him it is a 12-hour trip.
“So while we will be sad to go I think campaigning in New South Wales is the best thing for him.”
The timing is obviously right too, with the Inters starting next week and while the pacing division headed by King Of Swing has more depth than the trotting division if Robyn’s Playboy can adapt to the New South Wales style of racing he could definitely make the final.
Once through the series though he looks certain to be a real factor in the regular Saturday night Group Three Free-For-Alls held at Menangle.
Robyn’s Playboy is rated $101 in Interdom markers but will trim up when bookies realise he is in the country and after withdrawals see many others pull out on Friday.
