Tomorrow night’s Melton program might herald the beginning of an Inter Dominion winning campaign by star Victorian Lennytheshark as he resumes in the VHRSC Classic.
Trainer David Aiken is thrilled with how his champ has trialled, which included a dazzling last half in a trial at Shepparton last week.
“We were rapt with his trial. He had to do it himself but he needed a good hit out. His times were really good, he has pulled up well and trained on this week but he does have some improvement which he will get through racing,” Aiken said.
Aiken admitted that it’s a good field and he won’t get it all his own way but he expects Lenny to be hard to beat.
“In that class there is no easy ones so he will get a good solid run into him. We don’t expect it to be easy, the draw isn’t ideal and there is a few that go ok but I expect he is going to be pretty good Friday night.”
The other feature on the card is The Harness Breeders Victoria Blossom Lady named after one of New Zealand’s very best race mares and Aiken has Earth Angel engaged. He certainly believes she is capable of winning.
“It’s a pretty even mares race, she has got good speed and if she has any luck she will be running home pretty good but there is a lot of chances in that race,” he said.
“We are very happy with her at home and we expect her to race well.”
Her main dangers in a highly competitive race include Kamwood Dawn, Mcrita, My Bella Starr, Tara Toplady, Charli Springfield and Betabcool.
Aiken’s other chances on the night include the old boy Wartime Sweetheart, who resumes, Cold Crusher, who is low flying, Bryce Cooper, drawn horribly as he goes much better when leading, and Cold Sister, who always runs a good race but faces stiff opposition in Glenferrie Typhoon and Sun of Sonoko.
