Club Menangle are proud supporters of the WomenCan Team Teal campaign and are excited to announce that the overall total raised for 2021 was more than $371,000.
The collective total includes all donations received from the state controlling bodies per win, fundraising from harness racing clubs, Night At The Trots and other sponsorship received.
Team Teal spans across six weeks in February and March with the aim of raising funds and awareness for ovarian cancer with donations supporting the Survivors Teaching Students Program and Research Nurse initiative.
Throughout the 2021 campaign, Club Menangle donated a total of $10,200 from 45 wins recorded by female participants. For six of these wins alone, $400 was donated as both the trainer and driver were female.
Chief Executive Officer Bruce Christison said, “Club Menangle is proud to have been involved in the Team Teal campaign, and we are completely blown away by the national result.”
“Team Teal raises funds for the Survivors Teaching Students (STS) program ensuring that when medical students become health care providers, they recognise the risk factors and symptoms so ovarian cancer is detected earlier, which can save lives.” said Christison.
Club Menangle’s 2021 Team Teal campaign culminated in Ladies Night, a marquee event held during the Carnival of Miracles.
On track, the best fillies and mares from the Southern Hemisphere went to battle in the Pryde’s Easifeed Ladyship Mile (Group 1) and John Gibson Memorial NSW Oaks (Group 1). Stylish Memphis NZ and Anntonia were victorious in the respective events.
The Schweppes Lady Drivers Invitational Pace saw ten of our industry’s most talented female reinswomen take to the track in a showcase event to raise further funds in the teal pants. Stephanie Lippiatt took driving honours as she saluted aboard Bad To The Bone NZ.
“It was a fantastic thrill; it is an event that I always look forward to competing in every year, and Bad To The Bone made it look easy,” said Lippiatt.
On course, Team Teal fundraising events enhanced the atmosphere trackside, which included Fashions on the Field, keynote speeches from women with a lived experience of gynaecological cancer, who are part of the Survivors Teaching Students program and a sea of patrons wearing teal ribbons.
Since the campaign’s inception in 2010, over $2 million has been raised to support ANZGOG’S research, prevention and educational programs.
One program of note supported by Team Teal’s efforts is the ANZGOG Survivors Teaching Students program. Ovarian cancer survivors foster future medical and allied health professionals by providing education around symptoms, diagnosis, and challenges of living with ovarian cancer.
Ella Meehan, WomenCan Campaign Manager, explained that Team Teal raises funds and awareness for ovarian cancer while celebrating the achievement of women in sport.
“In 2021, in partnership with the Harness Racing Industry, we raised over $371k through reinswomen wins, pledges, sponsorships, merchandise sales and community fundraising,” Meehan said.
“Club Menangle generously contributed $10,200 to this total through donations per reinswoman, and female trainer wins at their track and hosting a Team Teal event. WomenCan is grateful for Club Menangle’s continued support, helping women with ovarian cancer live better and live longer.”
With such a fantastic result from the 2021 campaign recorded, Club Menangle is excited to announce its continued support of Team Teal in 2022.
