Matt Day has been able to develop a brand and reputation as one of the true “Kings” of the Neds APG Sydney Yearling Sales held each year in Sydney.
The big man from Goulburn along with his partner Jannine Smith – Thomson and their 2 wonderful daughters are certainly favorites with the team at Neds – APG.
Matt’s skill and ability to turn out yearlings is true gift and it’s something he should be very proud of. Last year the Day draft averaged a tick under $50,000 and he thinks with the sires used for the 13 yearlings booked in with NEDS- APG for the 2022 sale, it will be his best ever.

Matt believes his association with APG runs much deeper than just a very strong friendship built up over 30 successful years selling with APG. Matt went on to say: “The team at APG are like family to me and any talk that Jannine and l would not be selling all of our yearlings in with the only industry owned, non for profit yearling sales company, is totally ridiculous. We have Neds-APG in our DNA”. Matt continued, “We believe the announcement on Monday was the greatness news Harness Racing has had for decades. We also believe it’s time for all owners & breeders looking to sell in 2022 to come HOME and enter their lots with our only industry owned, non for profit yearling sales company, Neds – APG”.
When Matt was asked why he has already entered all his 13 yearlings for the 2022 Neds – APG Sydney sale he said: “With an astonishing $3M pot of gold on offer in races and bonuses, add that to the free entry, we couldn’t be prouder of the partnership we have built with the David and his team. We are so positive about the announcement on Monday night that we are now looking at breeding 25 quality mares this season, our biggest number ever.
Matt is dealing with some serous health and pain issues and we wish the yearling sale KING well with this battle. He, Jannine and the girls know the team at Neds-APG have his back.
