SHANE Tritton is disappointed he won’t be part of the New Zealand Cup next month.

His initial plan was to chase both the NZ Cup and Perth Inter Dominion with stable star Mach Beauty, but all the eggs are now in the Perth basket.

“It was just going to be too hard to do both, especially with not much time between them,” Tritton said.

“I hope they work out a way of changing it for next year because you know how much I love going to those big races in NZ.”

Mach Beauty, one of Australia’s fastest pacers, has showed encouraging glimpses of his best in two runs back from a 13-month injury-enforced spell.

His latest race was a fighting fourth in the Les Chant Cup at Menangle on September 26.

But it was a solo workout at Newcastle last Thursday which convinced Tritton he had the “old Mach Beauty” back.

“He went a 1min52.2sec mile. He’s back,” he said.

“He’ll be right where we want him for Perth.”

Mach Beauty and stablemate Suave Stuey Lombo will fly to Perth out of Melbourne, which has planted a seed for Tritton.

“I’m going to take them down a bit earlier and Mach Beauty can run in the Smoken Up at Melton on November 13,” he said.

Suave Stuey Lombo is a different story.

“I’ve had to change things with him. He just wasn’t losing weight this time in work, so I’ve put him back into intense training at home to shred some of his excess body fat,” Tritton said.

“I’ve still got a bit of time up my sleeve.”
