Monday’s meeting at Pinjarra was full of firsts, with Logan Egerton-Green and Wayne Morrison both breaking through for their first training successes.
Strauny made it one from one, when the three-year-old gelding started from barrier three on Monday, giving Morrison his first training success at his first meeting. Bred, owned and trained by Morrison, the son of Indomitable Saab led all the way to win by a head for Corey Peterson in the cart.
Indomitable Saab was trained by Morrison’s late father, Barry Morrison, as well as training the dam of Strauny, Caval Ridge.
“When the mare retired, dad gave her to me. I was good friends with Joy Fletcher, so I got a serve to Indomitable Saab, just to keep it in the family so to speak.” He said.
“My father had been in the industry for about 50 years before he died. I had horses with him for eight or nine years as an owner, then it got to the stage where I was working away. I then had an opportunity to train a couple myself and took it up from there.” He said.
Morrison currently has two horses in work but does have five broodmares as well as a few youngsters coming through.
“Financially if its viable I’ll keep going, I’m enjoying it at the moment,”
“I’ve been mentored a bit by Bruce Whiteman and Mike Beech, so in between those two they’ve got 100 years of experience. They would help me out a bit, but I’ve got my own philosophy as well. I sort of implement them all together.” Morrison said.

Tumblin Dice broke through for his maiden win in the third at Pinjarra for Logan Egerton-Green at start number 11. Starting from inside the second row, the three-year-old westbred gelding was piloted by Colin Brown who got the youngster going late, flashing home to win by a half head.
Monday’s win came just months after Egerton-Green applied for his trainers’ licence, with the 25-year-old always having a keen interest in the horses and wanting to get involved in training. Logan currently has two of his own horses in work as well as training two for his dad.
“It was a good thrill to do it in my own name, but I have to thank Jim Curry and Liam, Colin (Brown) Dylan and Chloe, for arranging the horse for me, and dad for the facilities at the farm. I couldn’t have done it without them.” Egerton-Green said.
The Egerton-Green family has been involved in harness racing for many years, with Dylan Egerton-Green making a name for himself as a successful trainer/reinsman as well as their father Kevin training down at the family farm in Uduc.
When asked why he hadn’t put his brother on for the drive, Egerton-Green joked “He had one nominated for the race but pulled it out late, and every time I nominated him on, we got a bad draw.”
Outside of the horses, Egerton-Green is a full-time electrician but has always had a side interest with the horses, whether it be owning or jogging up a few for his family.
Dylan Egerton-Green continued the family success on the day with his runner Bellezza Nera making it two in a row for the successful horseman.
