After a couple of years on the sidelines, during which time she became a Mum, Hill was back in the sulky, and before too long, back at the top of the Drivers’ Premiership.
Fast forward to May 17, 2021 and Hill is not only going as strong as ever, but has claimed an Australian record.
Competing at Globe Derby yet again, Hill won six of the nine races to register her fourth sextet – the most of any driver in the nation.
Hill previously shared the mantle with Western Australian ace Gary Hall junior and Victorian champion, Kerryn Manning.
Hill’s latest haul came via Georgie Mae, Lindi Lincoln, Tiddly Winx, Bodyline, Ykikafil and Easy Rolling.
“It was a great end to a day which didn’t begin so well,” Hill said.
“My father (Gary) was so sick this morning he couldn’t get out of bed, so between stable work, getting Brooke ready for school and calling around for an appointment for him it wasn’t the best time.
“I was asked before the first if I thought I had a few good chances and I had to admit I didn’t study the form a lot today and was just winging it.
“I might have to wing it more often.”
Hill’s earlier sextets came in Port Pirie in March 2018, Launceston in March 2018 and Globe Derby in August 2020.
“To end the day with six wins is amazing,” Hill said. “To be the first person to do it four times is pretty special.
“Also Dad has improved as the day has gone on, so that’s also been good news.”
