It was a great night of racing in Hobart on Sunday, with the Brighton Cup and Sires Produce heading last weeks meeting.
This week we race in Hobart on Friday night before a big night in Devonport with a nine-race card that features many $12,000 feature races.
On Saturday, we see former Tasmanian Horse of the Year Ignatius line up at Menangle and Max Delight, also a former Tasmanian Horse of the Year, line up at Melton.
The Stars
Geoff Smith – had a weekend to remember, kicking it off with a winning treble in Devonport on Friday night before Rambleon scored in Hobart on Sunday night. So far this season, the North-West Coast trainer has had 11 winners and 20 placings from 76 starters.
Cool Water Paddy – was made to earn his victory in Sunday night’s Col Saunders Memorial Brighton Cup. Driver Ricky Duggan moved the pacer to the spot outside the leader from the 1500-metre point and it took until the shadows of the post for the Juanita McKenzie-trained gelding to put his head in front to defeat a game Rocknroll Turbo.
Lancelot – resumed from a spell to score in the Tasmanian Veterinary Services Sires Produce, leading all the way to justify his short quote in the $12,000 event.
Tammy Langley – recorded her first training double in Hobart on Sunday with two-year-old Hes Apples and Say a Prayer. Her two winners were driven by two of her children, Dylan and Taylor Ford.
Eye See Double – continued his dominance in the lower-rated races when scoring his third win of the season for trainer Ivan Belbin. The win was courtesy of another brilliant drive by Rohan Hillier.

Trial File
Hobart – Monday evening
Three trials were staged on Monday evening, which got away with a standing start event over the mile trip.
Wattabout Spangher for Jacob Duggan, who is seeking his race day drivers license, was able to step safely and find the lead before taking cover at the 1100 metres and utilising the sprint lane in the home straight to win the trial in 3.6 metres in a time of 2m 11.8s.
The second trial was a rating 40 to 50 affair taken out by five-year-old gelding Jackson Neptune. Driven by another seeking their race day license in Tiarna Ford, Jackson Neptune worked forward to find the lead and recorded an early win in the 2090-metre trial by eight metres in 2m 6.4s.
War Chest won the night’s final trial in a mile rate of 2m 4.3s for 2090 metres. The Ben Yole-trained pacer sheered straight to the lead for owner-driver Tim Yole and was untroubled to score by 2,7 metres over Island Rocknroll and Amazing Daisy.
Week Ahead
Friday: Six races are set down for decision in Hobart from 17:30 on Sky Racing 2 and TasracingTV.
Saturday: Tasmanians will head to the polls, but there will be interest on the track locally with trials at Carrick Park from 9:30, and nationally with Ignatius contesting the $20,400 Free For All at Menangle in Sydney, where he has drawn barrier seven in an eight-horse field over 2300 metres. Meanwhile, down at Melton in Melbourne, Max Delight lines up in the Golden Reign Free For All, where he has a second-row draw to overcome in a 2240-metre event.
Sunday: Devonport hosts a great night racing with many $12,000 features on a nine-race card, including the C.U.B Quality, Ladbrokes Sheffield Cup, Lucas Hotel Latrobe Cup, Tasracing Leigh Plunkett and the D.H.R.C Belmont for the two-year-old fillies, which kicks off the nights racing with a four-horse field at 17:13. Sky Racing 2 will televise race one with the remainder of the card on Sky Racing 1. All races will be streamed on TasracingTV.
