MEDIA RELEASE
WITHDRAWALS – GLOBE DERBY PARK SATURDAY 10 APRIL 2021
HRSA Stewards acting under Rule 23(13) have ordered the withdrawal of ELLMERS HOOFING IT and DENNIS from the Globe Derby Park race meeting on Saturday night.
Rule 23(13) states; “The Controlling Body or Stewards may reject a nomination without assigning any reason.”
Following recent media reports Stewards earlier today issued Show Cause Notices to two persons licensed by HRSA as to why the provisions of HR 23(13) should not be invoked against both parties. The Show Cause Notices were issued due to the seriousness of the reported allegations and the responsibility of HRSA to protect the image, interests and reputation of harness racing.
In making this decision, HRSA Stewards have considered all relevant information including submissions provided as to why Rule 23(13) should not be invoked. Stewards are of the view that in invoking the provisions of HR 23(13) the need to protect the image, interests and integrity of harness racing in South Australia outweighs the potential for reputational damage being incurred by either of the licensed persons involved.
“It is critical that the image, interests and integrity of harness racing in South Australia are not compromised while the licensed persons are being further investigated,” said HRSA CEO Ross Neal. “Accordingly, an individual’s interest should not outweigh the value of public confidence in the industry.”
