FINDING his niche since arriving in South Australia, handy pacer Midnight Calm is expected to have little trouble continuing his impressive form during the weekend.
Joining leading trainer Ryan Hryhorec last December, Midnight Calm has had a dozen starts for six wins and three placings.
Set to compete at Globe Derby on Saturday night the son of Shadow Play is favoured to add a seventh victory to his tally.
Fresh from his success at the troubled venue last weekend, Midnight Calm heads the market at $2 from barrier three.
Hryhorec will take the reins behind the four-year-old.
“He’s done a top job since he got here,” Hryhorec said. “I’m pretty pleased with the way he has improved.
“He’s the kind of pacer which gives what he can each time he goes out there.
“His work during the week has been as solid as ever and he’s going to be hard to beat from the draw.”
Citing Steinman as the one to beat, Hryhorec is also wary of Ash Park.
From the in-form Darren Billinger team Steinman has drawn gate six, with Ash Park to begin from the pole.
“Steinman is another which seems to give what he can each time he races as indicated by his consistent form,” Hryhorec said.
“Ash Park’s last couple have been good, and with a drop in points giving her a favourable draw, she comes right into it.”
