Terry Frisby enjoyed being awesome so much then he’s decided he’s going to be even more awesome in 2021.
At the recent Invercargill Harness Racing Club meeting at Ascot Park race 3 was the “Terry Frisby is Awesome” pace. Not only did he get a race named in his honour but he got to see the start of it up close and personal.
“It was a great day, a real blast,” said Terry, “I have been to the races dozens of times but this is unique. The ride on the mobile barrier was awesome and I loved being hosted in the Presidents Room. Club President Barry McCulloch and his wife Lyn hosted me and they were wonderful.”
The Invercargill Harness Racing Club introduced a new initiative this season where members of the public can purchase naming rights to a race.
Frisby, a one-time stand up comedian, spotted it on Facebook.
He showed it to his wife Anna with the comment, “you always say that there is nothing I want for Father’s Day – well here it is this year.”
Anna duly obliged and purchased the package at a cost of $300 plus GST.
Terry says he would recommend the experience to any harness racing fan – “one hundred percent. I thoroughly enjoyed it.”
To hear his own name as part of the commentary was a bit disarming for Frisby and it didn’t go unnoticed by friends and family all over the country.
“I was getting text messages from all over!”
In fact it was so much fun that Frisby has already agreed to having another race in his name. The “Terry Frisby is Still Awesome” mobile pace will happen early in the New Year.
Anyone keen on being awesome like Terry can contact Southern Harness Racing’s Promotions Officer Lindsay Beer at 021 351 499 or lindsay.beer@xtra.co.nz Opportunities exist at both Invercargill and Winton in the lead-up to Christmas and then Valentine’s Day.
