Backing winners on a cold, wintry night warms the hearts of punters. And members of the WA Trotting Media Guild have gone all out this week in a bid to find the best bets at tomorrow night’s Gloucester Park meeting.
The West Australian’s racing co-ordinator Ryan Havercroft believes punters can add to their bank early doors by unloading on Cyclone Banner in race two.
“Cyclone Banner worked at both ends of the race last week and was still too good for his opposition,” Havercroft said. “He led comfortably from this draw three starts ago and it’ll take something special to beat him this Friday.”
Veteran trotting journalist Ken Casellas is keen on Robbie Easton in the fourth on the card.
“Robbie Easton has drawn out wide at barrier No. 8, but I’m tipping that will not prevent him from winning the Retravision Pace on Friday night,” Casellas said. “He’s my best bet to repeat the dose after his convincing victory last Friday night.”
Guild president Wayne Currall is confident classy filly Double Expresso can shake off the bad luck that has dogged her recently and post an overdue victory.
“Double Expresso’s last four placings all could have been wins with an ounce of luck,” Currall said. “She has to overcome an awkward draw in the Group 1 $80,000 3YO Fillies Westbred Classic (2130m), but she’s the best horse in the race and is due for some good luck. I’m confident the cream will float to the top this week.”
Longshot guru Pat Harding has singled out Poisedtopounce in the Group 1 $80,000 3YO C&G Westbred Classic (2130m) as his best bet.
“A tough night at GP last Friday night, but hopefully better this week for punters and tipsters alike,” Harding said. “My best bet comes up in race six with the Greg and Skye Bond-trained Poisedtopounce. Although coming off the inside of the back line, I expect him to be well placed to live up to his name in the home straight and record a good win.”
TABradio’s form expert Hayden King believes Arma Einstein will prove too smart for his 10 rivals in race 10 and post an all-the-way victory.
“Arma Einstein is drawn to lead all the way,” King said. “He did all the work last start in the Group 1 and now comes up with the pole. He should bring up a double for trainer/driver Colin Brown, who also has the smart Typhoon Tiff engaged in race eight.”
The West Australian’s Ernie Manning and Radio Great Southern’s form analyst Warren Wishart are of the firm belief that punters can go home on a winning note by cashing in on brilliant filly Black Jack Baby in race 11.
“Black Jack Baby was a dominant two-year-old early and has bounced back after a stable change,” Manning said. “Looks hard to beat again and should be a top chance in next month’s Golden Slipper Pace at Gloucester Park.”
And Wishart agrees.
“Black Jack Baby made a stunning return to racing earlier this month, sizzling home to beat a smart colt in Talks Up A Storm,” Wishart said. “Drawn to stroll to the front and just wins.”
VALUE BETS
RYAN: Gangbuster won at consecutive starts from this draw before a last-start fifth and has the favourite drawn on his back. Goes well in front.
KEN: For value, I suggest Poisedtopounce from the inside of the back line in the Westbred Classic for three-year-old colts and geldings. He has impressed with his versatility in winning at his past five outings, all in standing-start affairs.
WAYNE: Henwood Bay ran a cheeky race at odds last week and looks another solid each-way chance in the second. He should lob on the back of likely leader Cyclone Banner and can add value to the exotics.
PAT: My value bet comes up in race eight with Madame Meilland. I believe she is due for a win and Friday night could see that come to fruition at a good price.
HAYDEN: Bracken Sky is drawn to the lead in the first and looks the one to beat. He has been racing without luck and much better than recently suggested.
ERNIE: Intheskyrocket has been on the improve and pacers from Greg and Skye Bond’s stable can never be underestimated.
WARREN: Very soft win by Robbie Easton last week from a wide draw when confidently driven by Hall Jr. Can see a similar run here and would love to be getting $6 each-way that’s for sure.
